Chemistry Master of Paris Centre

The chemistry department of the ENS is largely involved in the Paris Centre Master’s Chemistry Degree, co-accredited course between Université Paris Sciences et Lettres (PSL) and Sorbonne Université (SU). All information regarding the Master, especially its terms and conditions to candidate, are given in the following internet link : https://www.psl.eu/formation/master-chimie

Rich and modular, the Paris Centre Master’s Chemistry Degree presents chemistry in a general and in-depth way, transversal and open to its interfaces, especially with physic and biology. Incorporated in the most modern research as well as being responsive to our society’ actual stake, it forms high-level scientific executives who are able to, at the end of their master, insert themselves int a variety of professional environments, being the job market or the preparation of a doctorate.

The generalist character and excellence in chemistry is ensured by a first year at PSL or SU.

Thanks to its positioning at the interface with biology, this master’s degree also includes a specific 2-year course in “Chemistry and Life Sciences” (CSDV).

In addition to those interface courses, four typical sample routes are proposed in the second year :

  •     Analytical, physical and theoretical chemistry (CAPT)
  •     Molecular Chemistry (MOL)
  •     Materials Chemistry (MAT)
  •     Chemical Engineering (IC)

The originality of the Master resides in it modularity that allows to combine different UE of different sample routes to conceive personalized specialization profiles.

Students who wish to try the competition for the agrégation externe de sciences physiques option chimie can take a course in Master 2 to prepare for those competitions instead of a sample route (information and application procedures).

The realisation of the Master in two years is done in one of those two ways :

  • The CSDV in 2 years
  • A first year at PSL or SU then, the second year, one of those two routes (CSDV CAPT, MOL, MAT or IC, with the possibility of combining UEs from the standard courses) or the preparation to the agrégation externe.
