"From metal carbonyls to single core multimodal probes for imaging"

Sylvain Clède will be giving a conference on his work on October 17th 2014 for the "Journées Francophones des Jeunes Physico-Chimistes" (link :

His work deals with the development of a Single Core Multimodal probe for Imaging (SCoMPI). It is based on a unique molecular core, with a tris-carbonyl Rhenium and a ligand L bearing low-pi orbitals and being IR-responsive through the CO moieties and luminescent through the Re-L interaction. This probe enabled the tracking of an estrogen in correlative spectroscopy (IR and luminescent). The effect of substituants on its intracellular uptake and cytotoxicity was investigated. The originality of this work relies on the systematic application of IR-imaging, which is quite attractive: no photobleaching, organelle tracking without the need for label. The SCoMPI are probes of great potential enabling correlative imaging for a better understanding of biological phenonema.
