Professor Dan Gibson

Prof. Dan Gibson is the Drs. Margaret R. & Henry M. Zentner Chair in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, at the School of Pharmacy, in the Faculty of Medicine of the The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, ISRAEL.  Professor Gibson received his B.Sc degree in Chemistry and Physics, his M.Sc degree in physical chemistry and his Ph.D in inorganic chemistry from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Following the Ph.D He did a post-doctoral fellowship with S.J. Lippard at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, USA.

His laboratory has a longstanding interest in the field of metallodrugs and in particular in the area of platinum anticancer agents. Over the years, attempts were made to get better insights as to the fate of Pt anticancer agents in cancer cells using NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry in both cell extract and in model systems. There are continuous efforts to develop novel platinum based anticancer agents with improved pharmacological properties.

Currently, the focus of the work is on the design, synthesis of novel multi-action Pt(IV) prodrugs and testing their anticancer potential both in vitro and in vivo.
